What masseter Dysport for jaw clenching and slimming treats

  • Clenching and grinding (bruxism)
  • Jaw soreness and tension headaches from clenching
  • A square jaw from enlarged masseter muscles

How masseter Dysport for jaw clenching and slimming works

The masseters are the chewing muscles at the angle of the jaw. When they clench all night they get sore and bigger. Relaxing them with Dysport takes the force out of clenching, and over a few treatments the jaw can look slimmer.

It is used alongside, not instead of, the night guard your dentist may recommend.

How many units of Dysport for the masseter?

Usually 100 to 150 units for both sides. Per-unit clinics charge for every one of those units, which makes the masseter one of the most expensive areas elsewhere. At SoulShine it is $200 for both sides.

Is Dysport approved for this?

Dysport is FDA-approved for frown lines. Using it here is off-label, which is common practice for this area. Your injector explains this at your consultation.

How the appointment goes

At your first visit we go through your medical history and look at your face at rest and while you move it. If you want treatment the same day, we clean the skin, offer ice, and place a few small injections. It takes minutes. You book a check at two weeks before you leave.

Risks, and who should not have it

Chewing can feel tired for a few weeks at first.

Common: small bumps at the injection points for an hour, a mild headache, a small bruise.

Do not have Dysport if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to cow’s milk protein, have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or ALS, or have an infection where you would be treated.

To limit bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and alcohol for 3 to 5 days before, unless a doctor has told you to take them.

Aftercare

After Dysport at SoulShine, stay upright and keep your hands off your face for 4 hours, skip exercise for 24 hours and strong heat for 72. The full result shows at about two weeks. Read the full aftercare instructions

Questions people ask

Will it change the shape of my face?

It can slim the lower face after several treatments, because the muscle gets smaller. We will tell you if that is likely for you.

Why one price per area instead of per unit?

So the price does not decide the dose. Your injector uses the dose the area needs, and the price for the area stays the same.
