What lip flip treats

  • An upper lip that disappears when you smile
  • A gummy smile
  • Fine vertical lines on the upper lip

How lip flip works

A lip flip relaxes the edge of the muscle around the mouth with a few tiny injections along the upper lip. The lip rolls out slightly, so more of it shows, especially when you smile. Nothing is added to the lip.

How many units of Dysport for a lip flip?

Usually 10 to 20 units. It is $50 at SoulShine with no minimum, so you are not charged for a larger dose you do not need.

How long does a lip flip last?

About 2 to 3 months. The lip moves a lot, so it wears off sooner than other areas.

Is Dysport approved for this?

Dysport is FDA-approved for frown lines. Using it here is off-label, which is common practice for this area. Your injector explains this at your consultation.

How the appointment goes

At your first visit we go through your medical history and look at your face at rest and while you move it. If you want treatment the same day, we clean the skin, offer ice, and place a few small injections. It takes minutes. You book a check at two weeks before you leave.

Risks, and who should not have it

For a week or two some people find it harder to drink through a straw, whistle or say words with a strong p or b.

Common: small bumps at the injection points for an hour, a mild headache, a small bruise.

Do not have Dysport if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to cow’s milk protein, have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or ALS, or have an infection where you would be treated.

To limit bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and alcohol for 3 to 5 days before, unless a doctor has told you to take them.

Aftercare

After Dysport at SoulShine, stay upright and keep your hands off your face for 4 hours, skip exercise for 24 hours and strong heat for 72. The full result shows at about two weeks. Read the full aftercare instructions

Questions people ask

Will a lip flip make my lips look bigger?

A little more of the upper lip shows, but the lip itself does not get bigger. Nothing is added.

Why one price per area instead of per unit?

So the price does not decide the dose. Your injector uses the dose the area needs, and the price for the area stays the same.

The most common side effects include nose and throat irritation, headache, pain or a reaction at the injection site, upper respiratory infection, eyelid swelling or drooping, sinus inflammation and nausea. Dry eye can occur after treatment of frown lines.
