What Dysport for downturned mouth corners (DAO) treats

  • Corners of the mouth that turn down
  • Lines running down from the corners of the mouth

How Dysport for downturned mouth corners (DAO) works

The depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscles pull the corners of the mouth down. When they are strong the mouth can look sad or tired at rest. A small injection on each side relaxes them so the corners sit level.

How many units of Dysport for the DAO?

Usually 10 to 25 units for both sides. It is $50 with no minimum.

Is Dysport approved for this?

Dysport is FDA-approved for frown lines. Using it here is off-label, which is common practice for this area. Your injector explains this at your consultation.

How the appointment goes

At your first visit we go through your medical history and look at your face at rest and while you move it. If you want treatment the same day, we clean the skin, offer ice, and place a few small injections. It takes minutes. You book a check at two weeks before you leave.

Risks, and who should not have it

Placement matters here: too close to the lip can make the smile uneven for a few weeks.

Common: small bumps at the injection points for an hour, a mild headache, a small bruise.

Do not have Dysport if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to cow’s milk protein, have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis or ALS, or have an infection where you would be treated.

To limit bruising, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and alcohol for 3 to 5 days before, unless a doctor has told you to take them.

Aftercare

After Dysport at SoulShine, stay upright and keep your hands off your face for 4 hours, skip exercise for 24 hours and strong heat for 72. The full result shows at about two weeks. Read the full aftercare instructions

Questions people ask

Why one price per area instead of per unit?

So the price does not decide the dose. Your injector uses the dose the area needs, and the price for the area stays the same.
